It’s that time again. We packed up and journeyed to Disneyland once again because we needed to satisfy that Disney addiction that we have now passed on to our children. This trip was a little different because I happened to be 9 months pregnant. Not the most practically planned trip but I didn’t care. I pumped myself up and decided to go for it. We booked a suite this time across from the park where we normally stay on South Habor Blvd because my parents and younger brother were coming along with my two sisters that were flying in for the fun. We had planned on staying three days and spontaneously ended up staying a fourth night just us and the kids.
But by the last night my back was screaming at me and feet were so swollen they doubled in size. I certainly don’t recommend going while you are 9 months pregnant but if you do then just remember one key thing. Take breaks. If you miss out on breaks you will be burnt out half way though the day. Sit down whenever you get the opportunity or even better recharging at the hotel is the best way to get a second wind. Pace yourself. On another note, here are more Disney tip tricks that might be helpful for your next vacation there. Be sure to check out my past Disney posts for more random bits of advice that have worked for us over the years.
Stay Near the Park
People often ask me where they should stay when they visit Disneyland and I tell them two things. Find a hotel with a fun pool across the street from the park. It doesn’t hurt if it has complimentary breakfast either because no one complains about free food. Now if you can afford to stay at the Disneyland Hotel, Grand Californian Hotel, or the Paradise Pier then by all means book a room and enjoy your stay. But if $400 a night isn’t in your budget then check out all the places on South Harbor Blvd. We often stay at the Grand Legacy because it is near by and the kids love the pool. We take a break everyday and walk back after lunch sometime and go swimming. ooooor take a nap. I would also check out the the Courtyard Marriott directly across the street because they offer some stunning views of the park and not just a pool, but an entire waterpark.
Breakfast in the Park
We usually pack food for breakfast and store it in the fridge because it’s easier and saves some money. But when we do plan on eating breakfast in the park we often make reservations for Carnation Cafe on Main Street. But the problems is, I feel like everyone else does the same thing. It’s such a small space but extremely popular. So this time we discovered that one of our favorite restaurants, Rancho Del Zocalo in Frontierland, now serves breakfast. So we headed over there and it was completely empty. I was in Disney Heaven. Unlike the Carnation Cafe, this restaurant is walk up so you get your food immediately. It makes me wonder if people just don’t know they are open all day. So let’s just keep it a secret between us. Side note, If you have kids sit next to the side next to Thunder Mountain so they can watch the train roll by. Our girls get the biggest kick out of that.
Cars Land at Night
If you have not visited Cars Land at California Adventure I recommend going after the sun goes down and lights turn up. There is something so magical about seeing the whole street lit up with all the glowing neon lights and music. Not to mention it feels about 10 degrees hotter there during the day so waiting until nighttime is definitely the way to go. If somehow the timing is right you might catch the DJ dance and drive show when little kids are invited to boogie along side the tricked out neon talking car and dancing waitresses. It’s definitely a party and our girls have always loved it.
Calling all Nursing Moms Out There
Let’s not forget to mention the nursing stations in Disneyland and California Adventure. And to clarify there is just one per park. The baby care center in Disneyland is at the end of Main Street to the right next to the first aid station. The baby care center in California Adventure is next to the Ghirardelli Square Shop and across from the Bakery. Of course you are welcome to nurse your baby where ever it may be convenient for you but it’s nice knowing they are there ya know? So to explain in more detail these stations are full service facilities that include a nursing room with rocking chairs, high chairs to feed your kids, changing room, kitchen with microwave and sink, a main siting area with a TV and places to sit. Even better, they provide anything for your kids that you might need like, pacifiers, wipes, formula, baby food, sunscreen, and over the counter meds. One last comment…when you step into one one of these baby care centers and it is a blast from the past. I absolutely love it. There is a definite old fashioned warmth and vibe that matches the whole character of the park. Just something to check out sometime if ya have kids!
Check out the Red Rose Taverne
So if you are hungry and in the mood for food head towards Fantasy Land. They have temporarily replaced Village Haus, the Pinocchio Restaurant, with the Red Rose Taverne in the spirit of Beauty and the Beast. Again it will just be temporary so it would definitely be a unique experience. The restaurant has been redecorated with an ambience that makes you feel like you are stepping right into the movie. The menu has also been modified with a few different things but overall still serves the same style of food. You can expect burgers, sandwiches, salads, and flatbread pizzas. Don’t forget the lemon rose cake and grey stuff gateau for dessert which we didn’t actually try. Surprisingly enough. Otherwise I would have photo for you but I think we were in the mood for ice cream that night so we couldn’t fight that feeling. You know what I’m talkin about?
